2022

President

Alisha Tang

Hi! I’m Alisha and I am your 2022 SWIM President! I am in my third year of medical school and am currently based at Ipswich Hospital. I was born in WA but have pretty much lived in Brisbane my whole life so if you ever need recommendations, feel free to ask!

I joined SWIM last year as Social VP because I enjoyed the wide range of events offered when I was in first year and wanted to be involved in the process. The entire team was extremely welcoming and supportive, which made the journey even more enjoyable and inspired me to run for president this year. Our 2022 team is extremely passionate, and we have some exciting new initiatives in the works, so be sure to keep an eye out for those in the coming months. I am looking forward to meeting more of the SWIM community and I hope to see you at our upcoming events!

Hi, I'm Abirami and can't wait to be treasurer for SWIM this year! I have lived in Brissy basically all my life (except for a short stint at birth in Canada). Academic VP

Rachel Wu

Hello, I’m Rachel and I’m your Academic Vice-President for 2022. I am a second-year medical student with a background of Biomedical Sciences at UQ. I am an interstate student from Sydney and have found joining SWIM really allowed me to get involved in a variety of events and connect with my peers and doctors.

SWIM is such a warm and inclusive club; I find the events particularly helpful with maintaining a good study-life balance and so I highly recommend getting involved. My role is to bring you the Clinical Exam Tutorials (CET) and hopefully give you confidence in your clinical skills as you progress in your degree. We also hold Professional Development Workshops (PDW) for our MD2, 3 and 4 students to address issues you may face in your future career.

If you have any questions regarding our events or getting involved, please don’t hesitate to send me an email!

Hi, my name is Nantheka and I'm so excited to be the Community and Initiatives Officer of SWIM in 2022! I’ve spent most my life in Sydney, but ended up here in sunny Bris for undergrad, and am currently undertaking my second year of Medicine. I've loved being a part of SWIM as I find it to be such a supportive and welcoming community. In my role, I'll be responsible for the fitness and community outreach events run by SWIM. This includes the Ronald McDonald Make-A-Meal nights, charity fun runs, bake sales and sanitary product drives, as well as regular running and fitness events throughout the semester. I'm excited to continue to promote student wellness and community engagement through our events, and I look forward to meeting you at some of them soon!

Marketing and Publications

Maya Gantar

Hey everyone! I’m Maya and I’m the 2022 marketing officer for SWIM. I am originally from Canada where I did a Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience. This is my third year in Australia and third year involved with SWIM.

In my position, I am responsible for advertising all events on our various social media platforms and encouraging attendance from everyone! I hope to further bridge the gap between women and men in medicine by encouraging everyone to participate in the discussion of gender equality and by bringing as many people out to our events as I can!

If you would like to reach out or have any suggestions, please send me an email.
